Earlier this month North Korean leader Kim Jong Un met Russian President Vladimir Putin.
A number of senior diplomats from South Korea , the United States and Japan have agreed to take firm action against the possibility of an arms deal between Russia and North Korea, said the South Korean Foreign Ministry, reported by Yonhap news agency, Saturday ( 23 /9/2023).
According to the ministry, South Korean Foreign Minister Park Jin met with US Secretary of State Antony Blinken and Japanese Foreign Minister Yoko Kamikawa in New York on Friday (22/9/2023) to discuss Russian and North Korean arms transactions.
Earlier this month, North Korean leader Kim Jong Un met with Russian President Vladimir Putin just as concerns were growing about an arms deal between the two countries. Kim wants military technology cooperation with Russia to build spy satellites and other weapons, while Putin is trying to get munitions from North Korea for use in Ukraine.
The senior diplomats expressed their deep concern over the military cooperation between the two countries. They warned that any arms deal between Pyongyang and Moscow would violate UN Security Council resolutions to which Russia also agreed.
The three countries promised to cooperate with the global community in facing all threats to regional security that violate UN Security Council resolutions.
