US Congress ready to approve sale of nuclear submarines to Australia – State Department

The US Congress is ready to “bipartisanly” support the sale of US nuclear submarines to Australia, US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken said in a July 30 broadcast of 60 Minutes on CBS.

The Foreign Minister noted that the US Congress would not only not interfere, but would support the sale of nuclear submarines to Australia. He expressed confidence that “there is strong bipartisan support and the willingness of Congress to move forward” on the transfer of submarines to Australia.

Recall that the decision on the supply of nuclear submarines to Australia was made within the framework of the activities of the military bloc AUKUS (Australia, Great Britain, USA).

Members of the military bloc declare that nuclear submarines supplied to Australia will be equipped only with non-nuclear weapons. However, both Russia and China have already expressed concern over the supply of nuclear submarines, which can also carry nuclear weapons.
