Former President Donald Trump would be treated like anyone else if he is charged in Georgia, Fulton County Sheriff Patrick Labat declared on Tuesday.
“Unless someone tells me differently, we are following our normal practices,” Labat told reporters. “It doesn’t matter your status, we have mugshots ready for you.”
Labat’s comments underline the intense public interest in the possible mugshot of a former president, a photo that historians previously predicted would quickly become one of the most famous images in recent memory. Trump’s own campaign created a fake mugshot after he was arraigned in New York for an alleged hush money scheme.
Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis has run a wide-ranging investigation into Trump’s efforts to overturn President Joe Biden’s win in Georgia in 2020. In recent days, barricades have been erected outside of the county courthouse, a possible sign that an indictment may be imminent.
Willis has said she will announce any charging decisions by September 1. Willis’ potential indictment is just one of the many legal problems that Trump is currently facing.
Labat told reporters that he sent a team to Miami to observe Trump’s historic arraignment, allowing his team to fine-tune potential plans for Willis’ possible charges. The sheriff said there have been “dozens” of threats as Willis’ investigation begins to wrap up.
Trump has repeatedly lashed out at Willis during her investigation.
